Mainly dry but rather cloudy in the morning, best of the brightness across Skye and western Lochaber. One or two light showers across the north and east. Becoming brighter from the north through the day. Cold. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

It will stay dry through the evening and overnight. Some areas of cloud but often clear skies, allowing a widespread frost and some fog patches to form. Minimum temperature -5 °C.

Sunday:

It will stay dry through Sunday with bright or sunny spells, though the sunshine may be hazy at times. Cloudier across the Hebrides. Feeling cold with widespread overnight frost. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Rain clears south on Monday morning, then dry with bright spells. Variable cloud before showery rain for a time on Tuesday. Bright spells and some showers on Wednesday. Overnight frost.

An area of low pressure moves through the North Sea at first, which leads to rain and showers spreading south across the UK. Thereafter high pressure will likely be centred to the northwest with low pressure to the east, which allows a cold, showery, northerly flow develop for a time. For many this leads to a fairly settled period but there will be some wintry hazards including perhaps snow to low levels to north facing coastal areas at times. Showers will likely spread further inland at times and there may be some windier periods with more prolonged rain, however on the whole it will be drier than average. Temperatures will likely be below average for much of the period though it may turn near average or above average later.

Whilst confidence in details is low, high pressure will probably remain close to the UK initially, leading to slowly evolving weather patterns. Periods of relatively settled weather interspersed with more changeable interludes are likely, as are some spells of showers, especially around coastal areas. Temperatures will likely be near to average during this time, but a risk of wintry hazards affecting some parts at times remains, especially early in the period. Later in the month, a transition to more widely changeable or unsettled conditions is possible, as frontal systems are able to spread in from the Atlantic.
