A wet and windy start to the weekend.

Today:

An unsettled morning with rain and strong winds. An improving picture however, turning drier and brighter during the afternoon with winds easing. Feeling less cold than of late too. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

A mostly dry end to the day and fine evening, but heavy, blustery showers returning by Sunday morning. Feeling fresh overnight but not as cold as recent nights. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Sunday:

A windy day ahead with coastal gales possible. A band of rain moving eastwards in the morning, with sunshine and showers following. Feeling fresh in the wind. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

A showery day on Monday, and feeling chilly in blustery winds. Becoming drier, brighter and less windy on Tuesday. Some rain arriving midweek, and turning windy again, though milder too.

After a settled start across much of England, it will be quickly turning unsettled across Scotland, Wales and then the rest of England through Wednesday and into Thursday, with cloud and rain bearing Atlantic systems heralding a trend back towards more changeable, or even unsettled conditions. There will be some short-lived transient settled periods too, perhaps bringing an increased risk of frost and fog for a day or two. Towards the end of the period, an increasing chance of more settled spells once again, although confidence is very low by this point. Initially starting cold across England and Wales for Wednesday, before temperatures rise across Scotland and then England and Wales as Atlantic weather systems arrive, and will more often be above average than below through much of the period.

There is an increased chance of settled spells at first, bringing more in the way of dry weather, light winds, and increased risk of overnight fog and frosts. This is associated with more frequent periods of high pressure which will probably never be too far away to the north or east. Whilst spells of wind/rain still remain possible they may be less frequent than usual at first, but a steady increase in periods of unsettled weather across southern and/or western areas in particular seems likely as the period progresses. Above average temperatures are slightly more likely overall, but colder spells, especially at first and in the north, could still occur. One or more spells of snow cannot be ruled out, should weather systems arriving from the south into colder air.
