Today:

A cloudy and humid day with some hill fog and low cloud at first. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle at times, but some places remaining dry. Perhaps turning brighter in the west by late afternoon. Rather breezy. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

Any patchy rain easing with clear spells for a time. Cloud thickening from the west with outbreaks of rain in west Cornwall by dawn. Increasingly windy, especially along northern coasts. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

Monday:

Storm Floris, bring unseasonably windy conditions on Monday with outbreaks of heavy rain spreading east through the day. Drier through the afternoon with sunny spells, though still windy. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

A bright and breezy day on Tuesday with the odd isolated shower, but drier and warmer on Wednesday with lighter winds. Cloudier again on Thursday with scattered showers.

A frontal system will likely lead to spells of rain and showers, especially to the north and west, which may be locally heavy. The rain will spread east across the UK but there may however be some drier and sunny spells in the east at first. A changeable westerly pattern will then continue for a time with spells of rain or showers but there will likely be some drier, brighter interludes, especially in the south and east. Temperatures will mainly be near average. As we move towards the middle of the month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier, more settled conditions becoming more widespread and above average temperatures. However, some brief unsettled spells remain possible.

High pressure, and therefore fairly settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August. The northwest may see more in the way of occasional rain or showers than other areas. Elsewhere, predominantly dry weather is likely to dominate, although periods of showers and thunderstorms may break out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south.
