Today:

A grey and damp start with outbreaks of rain, drizzle and hill fog throughout much of the morning. Cloud gradually lifting later in the afternoon with a few heavy showers breaking out in the south. Slightly breezy but feeling humid. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Tonight:

Some rain lingering in the far north this evening. Otherwise most places largely dry overnight with occasional clear spells and a few mist and fog patches developing. Feeling muggy. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

Wednesday:

Any mist and fog patches soon clearing. A few showers breaking out through the morning but generally easing into the afternoon to leave plenty of warm sunny spells. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Humid again on Thursday as rain pushes eastwards followed by heavy, thundery showers. A few showers continuing on Friday, then generally drier on Saturday with warm sunny spells.

Rain and showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland will spread east at times, but eastern Scotland should see dry and fine weather continue in shelter of high ground. High pressure to the southwest of the UK will maintain drier weather across the southern half of the UK, and eastern England will also likely see much more in the way of dry and fine weather as well. Low pressure to the northwest is never too far away and this may continue to bring unsettled conditions for western Scotland and Northern Ireland, with some breezy winds as well. Perhaps turning widely settled later into August where high pressure to the southwest extends more bodily across the country. Temperatures around or a little above normal, perhaps warming further up later in the month.

High pressure, and therefore more settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August. There may still be some rain and cloud clipping the west or northwest at times. For most, dry weather is likely to continue, although short periods of showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Temperatures are most likely to be around to above average, with a near normal chance of brief spells of hot weather.
