Today:

Icy stretches possible in the northeast initially as rain and hill snow clears to leave much of the region with sunnier skies for the afternoon. However, showers continuing across Cornwall and west Devon, turning wintry. Feeling cold in brisk winds. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:

Blustery, wintry showers persisting in the west, bringing a chance of icy patches and accumulating snow on hills. Clear skies and lighter winds in the east, allowing a widespread frost. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Thursday:

Ongoing wintry showers in the west. Dry further east with plenty of sunny spells. Cold, but less of a wind-chill effect than Wednesday, with the breeze moderating throughout the day. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Cold again on Friday, though sunshine for many as showers ease. A change this weekend as it turns more unsettled with rain moving in, but also with temperatures increasing slightly.

Atlantic weather fronts will continue to spread east bringing spells of rain or showers, potentially quite widely. Over subsequent days showery conditions will likely continue but there will be some brighter spells at times. There is also a chance of Atlantic frontal systems moving in from the west at times and temporary periods of northerly flow that may lead to some wintry showers. Temperatures will be a little below normal. A westerly dominated pattern will likely persist through to the end of November with outbreaks of rain or showers and temperatures near to or a little below normal. There could however still be some wintry showers at times in the north. Areas of low pressure may bring longer spells of rain and periods of strong winds at times.

Whilst there is a lot of uncertainty as to the nature of weather affecting the UK into December, it looks likely that it will become more settled for a time with low pressure systems being steered to the south of the UK. There is however the possibility for some periods of rain or wintry precipitation at times. Temperatures are probably near to or a little below normal but there is a chance of winter hazards including snow at times for some.
