Today:

Initial cloud and outbreaks of rain will soon clear to sunny spells with isolated showers, these mostly affecting the Pennines but possibly spreading to eastern parts of the region later in the afternoon. Breezy at times, particularly over western hills. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Showers to start the evening will soon clear to give mostly clear skies across the region overnight. Winds slowly easing with patchy mist and frost developing towards dawn. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Thursday:

Any early mist soon clearing to give plenty of sunshine during the morning. Cloud building from the west during the afternoon with rain arriving overnight and becoming windy. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Unsettled throughout this period with bands of rain or showers moving across the region, some of which may be heavy at times. Windy throughout.

The changeable and at times unsettled weather is likely to continue through early November, with low pressure dominating the UK. This means further showers or longer spells of rain at times. All parts could see some heavy rain, but it is likely that western areas will be wettest. Strong winds are likely from time to time, with gales or severe gales a possibility. Equally there should also be some, at least brief, drier or clearer interludes, these more prevalent further east, but perhaps becoming a little more widespread and long-lasting by the end of the period. With winds predominantly blowing from a westerly or southwesterly quadrant, above average temperatures are most likely, with a reduced incidence of overnight frost and fog, compared to normal, especially at first.

A gradual transition from an unsettled westerly type to something less unsettled is anticipated through the middle part of the month. With time, greater incidences of high pressure look set to affect the UK, bringing more in the way of dry weather, but also increasing the chances of overnight fog and frost. By later in the month, the majority of any wet and windy weather is more likely to affect areas further to the north. Overall, temperatures look to pan out near to a little above average.
