Wind and rain marking a change in the UK weather

Warnings have been issued as the weather across the UK becomes increasingly mild but wet and windy.

Headline:

Mainly dry and breezy with the odd morning shower.

Today:

Most places stay dry with bright or sunny spells and only the odd light shower at first. The fresh to strong west wind will ease down from late afternoon. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

The evening will begin cloudy but dry, clear spells soon increase with inland areas becoming frosty with mist or fog in places. The wind will strengthen in the west. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Thursday:

A dry day with sunny spells and a light wind over the mainland. Cloudy and windy with scattered showers over the western Isles and coast. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Strengthening northerly winds bring colder conditions with outbreaks of rain and showers Friday and Saturday. The wind and showers ease Sunday but cloudy, rain in southwest later.

UK long range weather forecast

Many parts of south will be mainly dry at the start of this period, with high pressure tending to build from the Azores toward the UK. More unsettled in the north with lower pressure and weather systems moving in from the Atlantic to bring showers or longer spells of rain at times, the heaviest of which will be across hills in the northwest. Toward the end of October and into the start of November, conditions will likely turn more unsettled across the UK as whole, with low pressure systems bringing showers or longer spells of rain to most areas. Some drier and brighter interludes are likely between systems. After a cool start, temperatures will probably rise close to or slightly above normal later.
