The majority will see a dry day with occasional bright and sunny spells. Any light showers that do appear are likely to be confined to western areas of Central and Tayside regions. Light southwest breezes. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Any showers again confined to the far west of the area. Vast majority dry with clear spells and light winds bringing a frost for many come dawn. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Tuesday:

A fair days weather ahead with most dry with bright and sunny spells and relatively light winds. Far west may catch a few afternoon showers. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Wednesday cloudy and breezes with periods of rain perhaps turning heavy in the west. Thursday and Friday brings occasional showers, these focused in the west.

The unsettled theme is likely to continue through the first part of this period, with further rain or showers affecting many parts at times, and often accompanied by rather windy conditions. In the run up to Christmas, there is a signal for less unsettled conditions to begin to take hold, with a greater chance of high pressure developing in the vicinity of the UK compared to the previous few weeks. Whilst the chance of impactful rain or strong winds should reduce, there may be an increasing incidence of overnight frost and fog, the latter perhaps taking its time to clear, given the time of year. A gradual reduction in temperatures seems likely, falling closer to average overall. Some cold days are possible, if or where any fog persists.

High pressure will probably remain influential across the UK during this period. This means an increasing likelihood of dry weather compared to the winter so far. Despite the greater signal for settled weather, showers or occasional bands of rain are still possible at times, especially later in the period towards January. These could be wintry in nature. Temperatures are expected to be close to normal for the time of year.
