Headline:

Increasing cloud. Some patchy rain.

Today:

A bright start in the south, though some morning fog patches. Cloud in the north will move quickly southwards through the morning, with patchy rain and drizzle in places. Turning a little brighter into the afternoon. Breezy along the coast. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Any cloud and remaining patchy rain soon clearing to the south to leave a dry night with lengthy clear spells. Turning chilly overnight, with light winds. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Monday:

A dry start to the day, with some bright or sunny spells. Cloud tending to increase as the day progresses, with rain possible in Cumbria by the evening. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

A wet and windy day on Tuesday. Brighter but colder on Wednesday with blustery showers, these wintry over the hills. Drier and brighter on Thursday but staying chilly.

Still rather changeable at the start of this period, with further frontal systems moving across the UK, bringing some rain and stronger winds at times. Through late March, high pressure is likely to be located to the west or southwest of UK, with a predominantly northwesterly airstream in place. Further weather fronts are likely to round this high, bringing occasional rain to the north and perhaps east of the country, whereas areas further west stand a better chance of being dry. In this setup, it may be rather cool for most, with some overnight frost where skies are clear and winds light. Into early April and high pressure may become rather more dominant, with many areas seeing dry, settled conditions.

High pressure may be in charge during the first few days of this period, the centre of which transferring from somewhere west of the UK to somewhere to the north or northeast of the UK. As such, plenty of dry weather seems most likely, but with changes in wind direction leading to some quite marked differences in cloud amounts and temperature from day to day. Moving further into April, there is an increasing chance that high pressure will become less dominant and thus there is a greater chance of more places seeing some rain and possible stronger winds from time to time. Overall, temperatures panning out somewhere near to average.
