Headline:

Bright start in south, otherwise cloudier with rain or showers

Today:

Some early sunny spells around and to the south of Glasgow. However, cloudier conditions with occasionally heavy showers across Argyll spread southeast this morning, the showers perhaps merging to give a longer spell of rain around mid-afternoon. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud and showers soon clear this evening to leave a dry night with long clear spells developing. With light winds a widespread frost is expected, and a few fog patches. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Thursday:

Some early sunshine but cloud increasing through the morning. Outbreaks of rain spread northeast from early afternoon, becoming persistent and heavy at times. Strengthening southeasterly winds, with coastal gales later. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Remaining unsettled with showers or longer spells of occasionally heavy rain through Friday and the weekend. Windy at times, with coastal gales on Friday morning and later Sunday.

The changeable and at times unsettled weather is likely to continue through early November, with low pressure dominating the UK. This means further showers or longer spells of rain at times. All parts could see some heavy rain, but it is likely that western areas will be wettest. Strong winds are likely from time to time, with gales or severe gales a possibility. Equally there should also be some, at least brief, drier or clearer interludes, these more prevalent further east, but perhaps becoming a little more widespread and long-lasting by the end of the period. With winds predominantly blowing from a westerly or southwesterly quadrant, above average temperatures are most likely, with a reduced incidence of overnight frost and fog, compared to normal, especially at first.

A gradual transition from an unsettled westerly type to something less unsettled is anticipated through the middle part of the month. With time, greater incidences of high pressure look set to affect the UK, bringing more in the way of dry weather, but also increasing the chances of overnight fog and frost. By later in the month, the majority of any wet and windy weather is more likely to affect areas further to the north. Overall, temperatures look to pan out near to a little above average.
