Tonight:

Rather cloudy with outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain spreading northeast this evening. The rain clears overnight with clear spells developing. Southwesterly winds slowly easing. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Thursday:

A bright morning with some good spells of sunshine around. Eastern parts remain dry and bright through the afternoon but Perthshire and Stirlingshire become cloudier with occasional rain. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Sunny spells and a few showers Friday. Unsettled this weekend with showers or longer spells of occasionally heavy rain, mild but windy with strong southerly or southwesterly winds, coastal gales.

The current unsettled spell of weather is likely to continue through much of next week. Further spells of rain are expected, likely to be heavy and prolonged at times, particularly in the west and northwest. Some drier spells of weather are also likely, these most reliably across southeastern parts of the UK. Often windy, especially in the north and west where there is potential for a spell of very strong winds to develop for a time early next week. Generally mild with any overnight frost patchy and mainly in the north. There are signs that conditions may become less disturbed heading towards the Christmas period, with the potential for high pressure to build bringing drier conditions, with the risk of overnight frost and fog patches increasing.

Changeable conditions are likely to give way to slower moving weather patterns through this period, however the detail remains highly elusive. This means that whilst outbreaks of rain and showers remains probable at times there will also be drier interludes, which may be more prolonged than of late. Some spells of strong winds are possible but in the drier periods frost and fog becomes likely. On balance temperatures will likely be near normal with any snowfall most likely in the north over higher ground.
