Settle (North Yorkshire) weather

Headline:

Much colder this week with sleet and snow for some.

Today:

Overnight rain, sleet and hill snow clearing to leave a cold and windy day with frequent wintry showers towards the east coast with hail and sleet. Brighter elsewhere but feeling very cold with strong northerly winds. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

Largely clear and very cold with temperatures falling below freezing and fresh winds. Frequent wintry showers persisting along the east coast, bringing a risk of further snow and ice. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Thursday:

Staying very cold and breezy Thursday with continued wintry showers. These spreading further inland to bring an increased risk of sleet and snow for the North York Moors and Wolds. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Very cold overnight into Friday but becoming drier. Rain, and some hill snow, overnight into Saturday bringing more unsettled but generally milder conditions by Sunday.

Atlantic weather fronts will continue to spread east bringing spells of rain or showers, potentially quite widely. Over subsequent days showery conditions will likely continue but there will be some brighter spells at times. There is also a chance of Atlantic frontal systems moving in from the west at times and temporary periods of northerly flow that may lead to some wintry showers. Temperatures will be a little below normal. A westerly dominated pattern will likely persist through to the end of November with outbreaks of rain or showers and temperatures near to or a little below normal. There could however still be some wintry showers at times in the north. Areas of low pressure may bring longer spells of rain and periods of strong winds at times.

Whilst there is a lot of uncertainty as to the nature of weather affecting the UK into December, it looks likely that it will become more settled for a time with low pressure systems being steered to the south of the UK. There is however the possibility for some periods of rain or wintry precipitation at times. Temperatures are probably near to or a little below normal but there is a chance of winter hazards including snow at times for some.
