Today:

Bright but blustery, with sunny intervals and also a few further sharp showers blowing through. Generally cloudier on western hills, with the best breaks in the east. Still mild but less so than Tuesday. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Largely dry overnight with cloud more persistent on western hills, the best breaks in the east. Winds remaining rather strong and gusty. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Thursday:

Generally dry with bright spells and remaining breezy but mild. Best of the brightness in the east, turning cloudier late in the day. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Band of rain moves east Friday morning, then drier and brighter with winds easing. Saturday and Sunday, turning windy again and wet at times but staying mild.

The current unsettled spell of weather is likely to continue through much of next week. Further spells of rain are expected, likely to be heavy and prolonged at times, particularly in the west and northwest. Some drier spells of weather are also likely, these most reliably across southeastern parts of the UK. Often windy, especially in the north and west where there is potential for a spell of very strong winds to develop for a time early next week. Generally mild with any overnight frost patchy and mainly in the north. There are signs that conditions may become less disturbed heading towards the Christmas period, with the potential for high pressure to build bringing drier conditions, with the risk of overnight frost and fog patches increasing.

Changeable conditions are likely to give way to slower moving weather patterns through this period, however the detail remains highly elusive. This means that whilst outbreaks of rain and showers remains probable at times there will also be drier interludes, which may be more prolonged than of late. Some spells of strong winds are possible but in the drier periods frost and fog becomes likely. On balance temperatures will likely be near normal with any snowfall most likely in the north over higher ground.
