A dry, bright start with blustery winds. Winds may ease for a time, though cloud increasing through the morning. Rain will arrive from the south during the afternoon, turning heavy at times. Feeling rather cool. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

Wet and windy through the evening as patchy, but sometimes heavy, rain moves east accompanied by blustery winds. Turning drier, with clear spells overnight but winds strengthening again. Cold. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Friday:

A cold start with strong winds, patchy cloud and some sunny intervals. Blustery showers at times, especially over the Pennines. Dry later as winds begin to ease. Patchy overnight fog. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A bright and breezy start Saturday, turning cloudy later, with a chance of rain. Cloudy Sunday, with outbreaks of rain, perhaps heavy. Drier but cloudy Monday. Temperatures near normal.

Unsettled conditions are likely to continue at first, with low pressure probably centred somewhere to the southwest of the UK, whilst high pressure becomes established to the northeast. This means a broadly easterly flow will become increasingly dominant through next week, whilst periods of rain or showers become increasingly confined to southern or southwestern parts. With time, high pressure is signaled to become more dominant with more in the way of dry, settled weather anticipated though there could be some isolated showers to eastern parts, that could perhaps be wintry at times. Temperatures will lower compared to recent weeks, closer to or perhaps a little below average for many. Overnight frost and fog or freezing fog could become more prevalent, though any particularly cold conditions look unlikely at this stage.

High pressure is fairly likely to be close by to the UK at the start of this period, though its exact position is rather more uncertain. This means a continuation of predominantly settled and dry weather for many, albeit with the potential for overnight frost and fog. With colder air likely near to or over the UK, the chance of wintry hazards is higher than in previous weeks. Towards mid-month, there is the potential for rather more changeable conditions to become re-established, although confidence in this aspect of the forecast is currently low.
