Meanwhile, a low in the mid-Atlantic 991, will extend troughs into western UK waters during Thursday. New low expected to develop southern Norway 1019 by early Friday before quickly losing its identity. High in the North Sea will move east during Friday, expected Sweden 1027 by Saturday as troughs move further east over the UK and surrounding waters. Strong winds are expected to develop in Viking, North Utsire, South Utsire, Fisher and Fair Isle on Thursday. Winds then easing on Friday, except in Fair Isle, before extending into Cromarty later. Strong winds expected in Viking, North Utsire, South Utsire, Forties, Cromarty, Forth and Fair Isle on Saturday. Widespread fog is not expected

Strong winds are expected in Fitzroy, Sole and Shannon on Wednesday evening before easing overnight. Otherwise, no strong winds are expected on Thursday and Friday but may develop in south Fitzroy later on Friday. Strong winds are then expected in Sole, Shannon and south Fitzroy on Saturday. Widespread fog is not expected
Portpatrick

New low expected to develop southern Norway 1019 by early Friday before quickly losing its identity. High in the North Sea will move east during Friday, expected Sweden 1027 by Saturday as troughs move further east over the UK and surrounding waters. Strong winds are expected on Shannon, Rockall and Bailey on Wednesday evening before extending into Malin, Hebrides, Fair Isle, Faeroes and Southeast Iceland on Thursday and continuing into Friday. Winds ease for a time but then becoming strong again in all areas on Saturday. Widespread fog is not expected

The extended outlooks are issued once a day, at 2300 GMT and cover the next 3 to 5 days.
For the extended outlooks the waters surrounding the British Isles are divided into three areas: Cullercoats, Portpatrick and Niton. These three areas reflect the coverage areas of the UK's Navtex transmitters, which overlap in some areas.
The extended outlook forecast contains details of the likelihood of gales or storms, a general synopsis and a general forecast for the area of coverage of each Navtex transmitter.
