Cullercoats

Low 959 expected Rockall Tuesday and then 964 Faeroes by midday Wednesday, before moving into Scandinavia on Thursday. High 1026 southwest of Fitzroy stretches a ridge over southern UK Wednesday as it moves northeast into Thursday. New low 999 expected west of Fitzroy by midday on Wednesday, moving north or northeast and becoming multi-centred, with primary centre 977 west of Bailey, and secondary centre 979 expected over Rockall by midday Thursday. Multi-centred low pressure remains to the west of the UK during Friday. Strong winds and gales are expected to spread in from the west on Tuesday affecting the northern North Sea, with gales or severe gales affecting Fair Isle from Tuesday evening. Gales then also spread into Forties and Forth on Wednesday evening, and in Viking and North Utsire from early Thursday, before gales ease for all areas on Thursday afternoon but strong winds remain at times into Friday

Niton

Gales are then expected in Fitzroy and Sole as well as Shannon from Wednesday evening, with severe gales in the far west at times. Gales then spread into Lundy, Fastnet and Irish Sea from early Thursday, with severe gales in Fastnet and Shannon. Gales then ease on Thursday afternoon. Further strong winds spread in from the west Friday

Gales, with severe gales at times, are expected to affect all sea areas apart from Lundy, Fastnet, Irish Sea and Shannon, where strong winds expected from Tuesday evening. Gales spread into Shannon from Wednesday evening, with severe gales in far west at times. Gales then spread into Lundy, Fastnet and Irish Sea from early Thursday, with severe gales in Fastnet and Shannon. Gales then ease in south on Thursday afternoon, and ease in north early Friday

The extended outlooks are issued once a day, at 2300 GMT and cover the next 3 to 5 days.

For the extended outlooks the waters surrounding the British Isles are divided into three areas: Cullercoats, Portpatrick and Niton. These three areas reflect the coverage areas of the UK's Navtex transmitters, which overlap in some areas.

The extended outlook forecast contains details of the likelihood of gales or storms, a general synopsis and a general forecast for the area of coverage of each Navtex transmitter.
